I love seeing all these people talk about Popular. I remember Popular vividly. I’ve given papers on Popular. I had one great drunk Friday night watching the show with friends until 4am.

But that was season 1; when it was a show about lobsters in handbags and characters…

Exactly.  As much as it may be difficult to admit, Ryan Murphy (& Brad Falchuk too) have a certain ‘something’ to their writing that elevates above the average.  There was a writer/producer named David E. Kelley (and he’s still around) but he just had that certain magic.  He did a show called ‘Picket Fences’ that I thought was one of the best shows ever.

But you knew when he wrote an episode and when someone else did.  The character interactions went from heartfelt and truthful to trite.  Dramatic turns in his hand would just zing off in some unexpected direction and completely go against your expectations, where the same situation in a lesser writer’s hands would go off into maudlin and melodramatic territory.

I see the same thing with RM, BF, & Glee.  I dreaded the news that they had a new pilot for Fox (American Horror Story) because I feared that their flagship series would be adrift without them.  And I think this year it panned out.  Back when Popular was on, it was (I think) Nip/Tuck that drew Ryan Murphy’s time and attention away from Popular-and the show was a train wreck for it.

There was a post a month or two ago that one of the writers was asked about a possible Brittana kiss, and he said ‘Glee is a soap opera’. 

No, its not.  Its an insane, awesome, quirky, biting, sarcastic, satirical look at life through the eyes of a well meaning teacher (yes, let’s remember that Mr. Shue shouldn’t be an asshole) and the collection of students who want to break the social hierarchy through the power of music.

The phrase ‘I will go down with this ship’ has new meaning now: its not about Faberry, or Brittana anymore.  Its about the whole damn show. 

All of this. 

And also I fly the Bram flag with PRIDE. Big, gay, rainbows and unicorn type pride. I would wear their faces on a fucking jersey if they sold them.
